Our mission is to help abandoned, abused, neglected & last call dogs find the loving families they deserve
Canine Lighthouse is 501(c)3 charity located in the DFW Metroplex in Texas. Our dog rescue and adoption business was founded in 2018 by Michael and Nicole Kohanski. Nicole is a dog behavior consultant and trainer, who applies her expertise to help homeless dogs find families. We are passionate about the match between a dog and their family.

Can't contribute time? We can definitely use donations. Rescuing is expensive, with dogs costing far more to vet, feed and care for than our adoption donations cover. Tax deductible!

Our Process

Apply to Foster/Adopt or Adopt

Choose from one of our dogs on Petfinder or Facebook or describe your ideal dog in your application (we can help with that!)

Your application will be processed by one of our volunteers or rescue partners. Please note, we don't adopt on a first-come first-served basis. We strive to find the best match between our dogs and families. Please be patient with us!

Once you are approved as a foster/adopter we can set up a meet & greet.

If the match is great, we will help you finalize the adoption.

All dogs require an adoption donation that helps offset some of the medical and care expenses we incur. Because we are a 501(c)3, these donations are tax deductible.
Please remember, a dog is a decade+ commitment, and we will help you find the best match for your family. A little extra time will be worth it! Our training partners, Wiggle Butt Academy, spend tens of hours (or more!) with the dogs in our care.
